melita.io launches IoT eSIM solution to accelerate scalable global connectivity
8th April 2026
melita.io has launched its eSIM profile for eUICC-enabled IoT devices, enabling businesses to deploy and manage IoT connectivity with greater flexibility and control. This complements the existing SIM form factors, including 2FF, 3FF, 4FF and MFF2 embedded SIMs.
The eSIM profiles offer the same managed IoT connectivity capabilities as physical SIMs. The connectivity management platform has been enhanced to support eSIM profiles alongside traditional SIMs, allowing customers to manage their entire SIM estate seamlessly.
As the launch coincidences with International IoT day, melita.io is also running a special launch promotion for eSIM profile orders placed throughout April 2026.
“eSIM is a key enabler of scalable IoT connectivity, allowing businesses to deploy connected devices faster, manage connectivity remotely, and optimise operations across global IoT deployments. It provides the flexibility and control needed to support long-term, enterprise-grade IoT growth,” said Malcolm Briffa, Chief Officer Business and IoT at Melita.
Built on the GSMA SGP.22 specification, the melita.io eSIM aligns with established industry standards for IoT eSIM deployments.
What is IoT eSIM and how does it work?
An IoT eSIM allows connectivity profiles to be securely downloaded to a device’s eUICC without the need for physical SIM insertion or replacement.
With melita.io eSIM:
- Profiles are delivered via remote SIM provisioning (RSP)
- Installation is completed using a QR code or LPA (Local Profile Assistant) link
- Connectivity is managed remotely across the full device lifecycle
If your device is eUICC-enabled, switching to eSIM is simple, with no disruption to operations.
This makes eSIM well suited for a wide range of IoT use cases across key industries including:
- Smart metering – Enable reliable, long-term connectivity for electricity, gas and water meters with remote provisioning and lifecycle management
- Logistics and asset tracking – Maintain continuous connectivity across borders for fleet management, cargo tracking and supply chain visibility
- Industrial IoT (IIoT) – Support connected machinery, automation systems and remote monitoring in manufacturing environments
- Automotive and mobility – Power connected vehicles, telematics and fleet solutions with flexible network access
- Energy and utilities – Manage distributed energy assets such as solar, EV charging and grid infrastructure
- Smart cities and infrastructure – Connect sensors, lighting and urban systems with scalable, centrally managed connectivity
Key benefits of eSIM for IoT connectivity
The adoption of eSIM for IoT delivers measurable operational and commercial advantages:
- Faster IoT deployment – Activate devices without handling physical SIM cards
- Remote SIM management – Update or switch operator profiles over the air (OTA)
- Operational efficiency – Reduce SIM logistics, inventory handling, and manual intervention
- Global scalability – Deploy and manage connectivity across multiple countries and networks
For organisations managing large amounts of connected devices, eSIM significantly reduces complexity while improving deployment speed and control.
Manage eSIM and SIMs in one platform
melita.io eSIM is fully integrated into the existing IoT SIM management portal, providing a unified environment for connectivity management:
- Order IoT eSIM and physical SIMs under one account
- Manage SIM lifecycle, usage and profiles from a single platform
- Access SIM-level QR codes and LPA links directly from the portal
- Use enhanced API integration for automation and large-scale provisioning
This unified approach simplifies operations and supports enterprise-grade IoT connectivity management.
SGP.22 eSIM today, with SGP.32 planned for later this year
The melita.io eSIM is currently based on the GSMA SGP.22 standard, the established framework for IoT eSIM deployments and remote SIM provisioning.
Looking ahead, melita.io is preparing for the next generation of IoT eSIM architecture, with SGP.32 technology planned for launch later this year as part of the continued evolution of its IoT eSIM capabilities, further supporting efficient and future-ready device connectivity.
