AT A GLANCE

Crout, the global IoT connectivity venture operating under melita.io, is bringing the 2CoreSIM in cooperation with Telefónica Deutschland to the market: a solution that provides mission-critical IoT devices a second independent network path. One profile runs on Telefónica Deutschland’s network; the other on Melita’s. If the other on Melita’s; if the primary connection is disrupted, the card switches automatically, with no app and no manual reconfiguration. The first phase targets logistics, food retail and pharma cold chains, healthcare, industrial and security applications, back-up systems and critical infrastructure, with an initial focus on Germany.

Crout, the global IoT connectivity venture operating under melita.io, has entered into a partnership with Telefónica Deutschland to bring resilient, fail-safe connectivity to companies for whom a dropped connection is not a minor inconvenience but an operational risk. The result of the collaboration, 2CoreSIM, is now reaching the market.

For Crout, the partnership is a validation of an idea the company has pursued since its founding: that connectivity should be engineered as part of a customer’s core infrastructure, not bolted on as an afterthought.

“Crout develops IoT solutions for companies that view connectivity not as an add-on, but as part of their core business. If temperature data doesn’t arrive, a logistics problem becomes a quality risk, or if video surveillance and alarm systems fail, this can lead to immediate security risks and financial consequences. Together with Telefónica Deutschland, we are bringing resilient connectivity to places where outages are particularly costly, risky, or business-critical.”

TWO NETWORKS, ONE CARD, NO EXTRA COMPLEXITY

What makes 2CoreSIM different from conventional roaming is where the intelligence sits. Rather than simply hopping between radio towers of various operators, the SIM itself carries two complete, independently operated network profiles, one routed through Telefónica Deutschland’s network, the other through Melita’s. Built-in logic on the SIM card continuously checks connection quality. If the primary path becomes unavailable due to a coverage gap, a local outage, or a core network failure, the SIM switches to the secondary profile on its own. From the customer’s side, nothing changes: one APN, one device, one managed service, regardless of which profile is active underneath.

Crout sees this architecture as a natural extension of its product philosophy: keep the customer experience simple while doing the hard engineering work underneath it. Looking ahead, Crout intends to extend the switching logic further to additional connectivity layers, including satellite and short-range radio, alongside terrestrial cellular networks.

WHERE RESILIENCE MATTERS MOST

The first wave of use cases reflects where Crout already works closely with customers. In logistics, 2CoreSIM is designed to keep high-value goods, containers, and cash-in-transit vehicles trackable without interruption. In food retail and pharmaceutical logistics, it supports more reliable transmission of cold-chain temperature data. In healthcare, it is built to carry vital-sign and device data without gaps. Industrial operators can keep sensors, machinery, security systems, and backup infrastructure reachable even when a primary connection drops, and operators of water treatment plants, pumping stations, and energy networks gain a second path to keep monitoring continuous. The same logic applies to flood and wildfire early-warning systems, where a missed alert has consequences far beyond the cost of connectivity itself.

BRINGING TWO NETWORKS TOGETHER

The cooperation brings together complementary strengths. Telefónica Deutschland contributes its German mobile network. This includes a modern core and antenna infrastructure spanning more than 29,000 sites, together with its expertise in digital connectivity. Crout adds its IoT engineering experience, direct access to Melita’s network and international roaming footprint, and close working relationships with customers in the relevant industries.

“The partnership with Crout demonstrates how strong networks, IoT expertise, and intelligent SIM technology come together to create a solution that gives companies greater reliability and operational control.”
